Posted March 31, 2011 by The Candace B in Entertainment

Urban gardening is something that had been around for about 20-30 years but it is a concept that is growing in popularity. The popularity of Urban Gardening is growing because of the attention the movement has been getting from celebrities and political figure and with the support of the first family and the spotlight that First Lady Michelle Obama has put on the topic and the situation that exists with urban food deserts.

Now an Atlanta independent film series is featuring a documentary about Urban gardening being done in Detroit, the hardest hit city by the shifts in the economy and the manufacturing industry. The Film “Urban Roots” is a documentary from Tree Media, see the trailer below.

Urban Roots is the next documentary from Tree Media. Directed by Mark MacInnis, produced by Leila Conners (The 11th Hour) and Mathew Schmid, the film follows the urban farming phenomenon in Detroit. Urban Roots is a timely, moving and inspiring film that speaks to a nation grappling with collapsed industrial towns and the need to forge a sustainable and prosperous future.
